I'm a Jerusalem-ite!

You would think that when a person is unemployed, he would have loads of time to blog. When you have nothing better to do blogging early and often doesn't seem like to much to ask. As it turns out, unemployment appears to elicit even more sporadic blogging from yours truly. This is because in my current unemployed state my schedule has become even less defined. Instead of taking advantage of my time to blog, I procrastinate, feeling secure in the knowledge that I will have plenty of time to blog tomorrow.

Well, tomorrow has finally come. And so has some big news.

I have an apartment. A really nice apartment. In Jerusalem. It's nice. Here is the story:

A week and a half ago I was looking for apartments and had already looked at two rather dingy, unattractive places when I arrived to view a third. My hopes were not high. The apartment was in an excellent neighborhood and was more modestly priced than the two other unacceptable apartments. Much to my surprise, the apartment was beautiful. It was recently renovated and was fully fully furnished (as opposed to the other apartments which were only partially furnished). I was amazed that the apartment was still available and offered to give the caretaker a deposit on the spot. She informed me that somebody else was supposed to bring a deposit but that if I brought her the money the next morning I could have the apartment. When I called the next morning to confirm our appointment, I was shocked to learn that the other perspective tenant was bringing the caretaker her deposit that day. She had seen the apartment first and therefore had the first option on the apartment. I was devastated. I sulked the entire weekend.

Finally, it was time to move on. I started looking at more apartments and eventually found one that was acceptable. It was smaller and a little farther than the "dream" apartment, but that dream had died. As I was preparing to drive down from Haifa to sign the lease I received a phonecall from the caretaker of the first apartment. The perspective tenant had been flaky. The apartment was mine if I wanted it. I did.

I finished moving all of my stuff in today. I am officially a Jerusalem-ite. Now all I have to do is unpack.
