And It's Nice To Be Back Jay
In case the title doesn't make much sense, I'm imagining that I am on the Tonight Shown with Jay Leno and he just said "It's nice to have you back with us Adam." It's a metaphor where my blog is Jay Leno and I am me.
I haven't written in some time because I have been busy. Busy at work. And busy at home. The work part is relatively straightforward. Lots of work means working lots of hours spent working, which means less free time for blogging. Busy at home involves using what free time is left for things other than blogging. I'm glad that I could clear that up for everyone.
What have I been doing with my free time instead of blogging, you might ask? The short answer is, trying to figure out what I want to do with my life. The more I think about what I would like to be doing, the more I think I would like to be entrepreneurial. I want to be responsible for something and I want to make big-picture decisions. Unless you know somebody who would like me to take over their business, I'll probably have to start a business myself. But what business to start? That's the big question. And unfortunately, the answer is, I don't know. That's problem #1. My second problem is that I need a partner. I'm familiar enough with myself that I know that I need someone to bounce my ideas off of and to be accountable to. I feel (justly or not) that when you are working with somebody else you are a part of something that is now bigger than just you, and that is a strong motivational factor for me. Just like in problem #1, however, there is an inherent question here. Who is that partner? Again, I do not know.
One option, that I am strongly considering, to help determine these answers is business school. From what I have read, business school will give me an opportunity to meet new people with different backgrounds and industry experiences. It will give me an opportunity to build a strong network of peers who can help answer these questions and provide support to any business venture that may be created. Business school will also provide me with tools and skills for helping to grow and develop my business.
At the moment I am considering several top tier schools (such as Harvard, MIT, U Chicago, Northwestern) who I feel will best help me to reach my goals and put me in the best position possible to answer the above questions. These schools also have extremely strong "brands" giving the degree value both in the US and in Israel. It is fortunate that such well respected schools are also located near family (mine in Boston, Michelle's in Milwaukee).
Of course, regardless of what I determine is the best course of action for me, the admissions committees still have to agree.
